How to take the bus from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Shenzhen, Guangdong and other South China cities

by on Jan.26, 2010, under Business Travel, Vacation

If you are flying to Hong Kong International Airport (“HKIA” or “HKG”) to get to South China (Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Huizhou, Foshan and Zhongshan) for business or pleasure, there are many options to go directly from HKIA to Shenzhen and Guangzhou without setting foot in Hong Kong. The best option is to use one of the three to four bus operators that go from HKG to South China every hour.

Bus tickets to South China can be purchased at the Coach Station counters located at the Arrival Concourse of HKG’s Terminal 1 (near A8, A9, and A10) or at the Coach Station located at HKG Terminal 2. Here’s a link to the bus operators and where they are located at HKG.
All buses depart from the Coach Station at HKG Terminal 2. Do not be too concerned if your flight arrives at Terminal 1; HKG Terminals 1 and 2 are a 10-15 minute walk from each other.

You can visit this link to check bus departures and times, and book tickets beforehand.

If you’re stuck in HKG and need a place to stay, check out my previous blog on “Where to Stay in Hong Kong.”

Below is a map of HKIA’s Coach Station for your reference:

Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas – SPG No More

by on Jan.25, 2010, under Hotels, Vacation

A heads up to anyone with rewards reservations at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, as of last week they are no longer part of the Starwood (SPG) brand and will refuse you at reception.  No word yet on whether SPG is providing compensation to those with reservations, but it doesn’t look good.

“The Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino, A Sheraton Resort will be leaving the Starwood system on January 15, 2010. Reservations for dates on or after January 15, 2010, will not be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption or accrual.”  – SPG

Perhaps it’s the right time for SPG to step it up and broker a deal with the Bellagio!

Delta delivers Rollover MQM as promised!

by on Jan.22, 2010, under Airlines

True to its words, Delta has deposited the Rollover MQM (Medallion Qualification Miles) to my SkyMiles account (see previous post regarding Delta adding Rollover MQM).

As you can see below, I flew 56,187 air miles on Delta in 2009; and I’ve received 6,187 MQM for 2010. I have not been on a Delta flight in 2010. Getting the 6,000+ MQM is a great start to my chase to retain at least Gold Medallion status on Delta in 2010.

Kudos to the Delta SkyTeam for delivering the rollover miles; Starwood still hasn’t delivered their promised SPG’s Rollover Nights yet.
